Richmond, CA has stepped up to the plate in effort to stop the rise in graffiti by way of...technology! Catching culprits mid-act had been a luck of the draw but now thanks to advancements in sensor technology, Graffiti Detectors give law enforcement the opportunity to catch the vandal mid-tag. At $1,800 a pop, these detectors have been placed in undisclosed areas around the city. And just to make sure that the taggers could not go around tagging the devices, the detectors themselves have been shielded from the public eye. KTVU's Mike Miebach enticed his viewers with a quick glimpse of the menacing black suitcase that houses these tagger traps. Being able to catch the taggers mid-tag will hopefully do the trick for Richmond and help aid their abatement efforts. KTVU reported that Caltrans is currently spending over $50,000 a year cleaning up graffiti! Good luck Richmond!
